Item Details

(aka Wonderberry) Bred by Luther Burbank in the early 1900s; offered by seedsman John Lewis Childs as Wonderberry in 1909. Great controversy ensued over the plant’s provenance and true identity, and Burbank’s reputation was badly damaged. Prolific bushy plants loaded with small, slightly sweet, dull blue berries.

Interesting flavor

by

Zone 10b - these guys are very happy to produce lots and lots of little fruits. To me they taste very interesting. Not like a tangy berry I’d imagine from this color. Reminded me of the flavor of black tea? Hard to describe... have to try it to see.

Don't like the texture, grows well otherwise...

Slimy texture. I am not a fan of the taste or texture, but you may not see things the same way. Prolific grower, and substantial producer. Will reseed itself in your garden, and you will likely see it for years to come whether you plant it again or not.

Huge crop

Started indoors, transplanted 2 in the ground and 2 into large pots. They all thrived. Even when the pots were neglected of water for a few days they bounced right back. Very delicate to pick. Put a colander under the fruits, lightly twist them and let them fall. They taste like tomatoes to me.

Meh

Grew great, but just couldn't get into the taste. Gave the rest of the seeds away.

Bummed

by

Seriously disappointed because I have tried twice now to grow these little guys. My seeds from the 2020 batch simply were not viable, not one sprouted.
