Item Details

With exceptionally crisp and juicy pods, this Dutch wax bean bears large 6-8" cream-colored pods with vivid purple mottling that fades when beans are cooked. Pods are stringless and wide. Compact, high-yielding plants.

  • 55-60 days
  • ±1,500 seeds/lb
  • Conventional
  • Bush bean
  • Wax bean
  • Large cream and purple pods
  • Stringless pods; exceptionally crisp and juicy

This variety works for:

  • Fresh eating
  • Steaming

When you blanch or steam these beans you may notice that the beautiful markings on the shell disappear. Thankfully, the entire pod - shell and beans - can be eaten raw and is tender and nutty.

Try adding this bean to your stir-fries or even garnishing a plate with a few raw beans.

Best bean of all!

by

I've grown many different varieties of beans but this is the absolutely best one of all! They are crisp and juicy with an outstanding sweet bean flavor. The crispness stays after blanching to freeze. You will be amazed at how good the frozen ones are in midwinter. If I could only grow one bean, this would be it - no hesitation.

Great flavor and unique color

Thus bean is delicious. It was also very easy to grow with no pest issues.

Favorite bush bean, unique

by

My favorite bush bean, they are large flat wax beans with purple striping. They are crisp with a high moisture content like the description states. Not like a romano, not like a bush wax or common green bean either. Pretty unique, and attractive, and most people should like them even though they are different. The bush plants can get sloppy but can be productive up to frost.

Favorite beans!

We love these beans! They are super productive, fun to look at and my kids go nuts for them. I usually have to sneak mine in the garden before bringing them in or I don't get to enjoy any!

Great container bean

by

I got these for the novelty, but will now grow them every year for the quality of the beans. I don't have a garden, so they were grown in a large pot in part shade and I STILL got good yields of large, flavorful beans for the whole season, they didn't stop until they froze.

In the Family for Generations

by

My Husband's Grandparents grew and saved this bean exclusively for thier entire lives. Their Parents grew and saved it before them. Now we grow & save it. They are delicious fresh, cooked, frozen, canned & dry. It's the most versatile bean I know. Saves beautifully as well. Lovely buttery flavor & the plants are hearty & grow very well even under stress.

Great taste! Pretty beans.

My only complaint is that the rabbits ate my succession planting. Great taste, good conversation food to serve friends and family.

good wax bean

by

Very productive. Pick every day, these get big in a hurry! Bigger ones are still tender enough to eat, but the smaller ones are wonderfully crisp and juicy. Coloring makes it easy to spot beans.

Great for Florida!

by

I love this bean. Another one with a high germination rate. Handles Florida growing conditions well, but I plant in March. Produces many great tasting beans. I give this one space to grow.

None of the seeds sprouted...

by

I ordered these seeds recently. I soaked the seeds in water and planted them. The temperatures are very warm (high 80s) and none have sprouted...It's been about a month. I am very disappointed. I see reviews that these are very good beans but I seem to have gotten a bad batch :(

**We do not recommend soaking beans prior to direct sowing into your garden, as it can lead to rot and issues with germination. Additionally, the germination rate of our Dragon's Tongue beans is currently 96%.

Super easy to grow, beautiful and delicious!

by

These are super easy to grow and beautiful. They taste juicy and are sooo good. I've planted several in my garden. So far the squirrels are leaving them alone. Great that it's a bush bean and doesn't need a trellis or support.
