as wonderful as the back-story, even grown in containers!

by

I grew these (eventually) in a 20-gallon grow bag on a roof in Brooklyn - starting them inside... potting them up, but did allow them to overwinter in their eventual spot. I just loved them swaying (with some 'light' staking) in the breeze against the urban backdrop. JUST fyi: the keeper of the UK's national hollyhock collection explained on 'Gardeners' World' that he grows ALL of his hollyhocks in 20-gallon containers, so it can be done.
